Sam Smith

Reunion album slated for 2016

WindmillLaneRecording sessions are set in Ireland for February as Ben reunites with his 2011 touring band Sam Smith. Ryan Lerman, Chad Chapin and Andrew Higley. They’re putting together a collection of songs that Ben has been writing, inspired by the various “Rock This Bitch” improvs from live shows. A 2016 release is tentatively planned.

The sessions are to be recorded at legendary Windmill Lane Studios, most famous as the studio where the Irish rock band U2 recorded, as well as the Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga. Windmill Lane, an unassuming graffiti-laden building along Dublin’s “Rock ‘n’ Stroll” Trail, is one of Europe’s most highly-regarded recording facilities. (more…)

Sam Smith movie poster exhibit to open

House

"House" poster designed by Sam Smith

Drummer Sam Smith, in his other life as a poster artist, has an exhibit of his movie posters going up at Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre starting Saturday, December 4. It’s Sam’s first art exhibit, and the opening event is from 5-8 PM, with about twenty of the posters he’s designed for mostly indie films remaining on display through December. The orange cat at left was a design he did for the theatrical re-release of Nobuhiko Obayashi’s 1977 film House.  Sam is also working on poster designs for his top ten films of 2010, and many will be available for sale at a later date.  For more information on Sam’s posters, visit his blog, Sam’s Myth. There’s also more info on Sam and his poster work in this article on slashfilm.com. Update: Sam has put up some pictures at his exhibition.
